AFX-operated custody bridge was drained after validator infrastructure compromise
2026-07-22hackcritical

AFX reported a targeted software-supply-chain intrusion that progressed through internal infrastructure to a subset of DEX validators. Compromised validators co-signed a bridge call that transferred assets from the AFX-operated custody bridge; independent reporting measured the drain at approximately 24.15 million USDC. AFX suspended bridge-related operations and isolated the affected validator cluster during containment.

Notes and record state

Record note
HEI consolidates the AFX sovereign chain, perpetual exchange, trading application, vault, explorer, and documentation surfaces into one exchange entity. AFX announced its sovereign L1 mainnet as live on May 18, 2026. On July 22, 2026, an attacker compromised AFX-operated infrastructure and validator signing capacity, causing the AFX-operated custody bridge to release approximately 24.15 million USDC. AFX later published a detailed post-mortem describing a software-supply-chain intrusion and platform-wide suspension of bridge operations during containment. The incident affected AFX-operated infrastructure rather than the native Arbitrum bridge and does not by itself establish a terminal exchange status. The first-party trading surface remained publicly available at the 2026-08-17 review.
